CURATOR OF EXHIBITIONS
Annual Salary: $60,060-78,516 (equivalent to CIG K Scale). Benefits include 25 days’ vacation and pension and health insurance contributions.
Summary: Working closely with the Director, the Curator of Exhibitions develops and manages the exhibition programme of the Cayman Islands National Museum, including permanent, temporary, traveling, and outreach exhibitions, ensuring that exhibitions are of an appropriate quality, engaging and relevant and accessible to the Museum’s diverse audiences, and consistent with the Museum’s remit. In addition, the post-holder assists with the Museum’s education and outreach programmes and supports its collections management.
Key Responsibilities:

Leads the development, curation, and management of the Museum’s temporary and permanent exhibitions, ensuring they are engaging, inclusive, accurate, and aligned with the Museum’s mission and Caymanian heritage.

Oversees the full exhibition lifecycle, including planning, design, installation, evaluation, documentation, scheduling, and continuous improvement.

Collaborates closely with Collections, Conservation, Education, and Communications teams to integrate collections into exhibitions, ensure artefact safety, and develop accessible, high-quality interpretive content and programmes.

Provides leadership for exhibition planning committees and recommends innovative exhibition design, technical, and audience-engagement solutions.

Manages exhibition budgets and supervises staff, interns, volunteers, contractors, and service providers involved in exhibition development and delivery.

Represents the Museum professionally through training, conferences, public engagements, and special projects, while staying current with museum best practices, emerging technologies, and accessibility standards.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills: A master’s degree in Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, Arts Management, History, Archaeology, Art History, or Cultural Studies is required, along with museum-based curatorial experience demonstrating a record of high-quality exhibitions. Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of Caymanian history, culture, and heritage, as well as current museum standards, best practices, and innovations in exhibitions, audience engagement, inclusion, and conservation. Proficiency in MS Office and excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills. Valid drivers’ license.
